A letter from our school community

Please stay, Dr. J.

With love, gratitude, and the hope
that this is not yet goodbye.

Dear Dr. J,

It is difficult to find the words for this letter, because the thought of NIS without you leaves us with a sadness we are not quite ready to face.

We understand that you are considering retiring at the end of this academic year and that your decision is still under consideration. While there is still a possibility that you might stay, we could not let this moment pass without telling you, from our hearts, how much you mean to us.

Please, Dr. J, would you consider staying with us a little longer?

To us, you have never been simply the principal. You are the familiar smile that reassures our children, the kind voice that makes a difficult day feel easier, and the person parents know they can turn to when something is weighing on their hearts. You listen, you make time, and you care. Those things may seem ordinary to you, but to the families whose lives you have touched, they mean everything.

As parents, we place the most precious people in our lives in the school's care each morning. Knowing that you are there gives us comfort that is difficult to put into words. For many of us, you are one of the strongest reasons we have chosen to keep our children at NIS. We trust your judgment, but more than that, we trust your heart.

And from us, your students: we may not always know how to say it, but we notice your kindness. We notice when you stop to speak to us, when you encourage us, and when you make us smile. You help us feel that we belong. We are not ready to imagine our school days without you, and we wish we could have more time with you before we have to say goodbye.

It is often the small things that make someone irreplaceable: a reassuring conversation, a moment of patience, a warm greeting on a difficult morning. You have given so many of those moments to so many of us. Together, they have made you a deeply loved part of our children's lives and our families' experience of NIS.

That is why the thought of your leaving hurts so much. We would miss you as a person - your warmth, your laughter, your gentleness, and the care you bring into the school every day. There would be an empty place that we would all feel.

We know you have your own hopes for the years ahead, and that you and your family deserve time together. We respect that wholeheartedly. Even so, we hope you will forgive us for making this heartfelt plea: if there is room in your heart and in your plans for another chapter at NIS, please stay. It would mean more to us than you may ever realise.

If you have ever wondered whether your work has made a lasting difference, please let this letter be our answer. It has. You have helped children feel safe, given parents reassurance, and brought kindness into moments when it was needed. Those are things we will carry with us long after our children leave school.

Whatever you decide, you will always have our gratitude and affection. But while you are still thinking about it, we wanted you to hear us clearly: we love you, we value you, and we are not ready to say goodbye.

Please consider staying, Dr. J. We would be so grateful for more time with you.

With love, heartfelt gratitude, and the sincere hope that this is not yet goodbye,
The Parents and Students of NIS

With love, from us.
